who? whoooooooo?

i have several friends that freakthefvckout over owls. so when i found this pattern, i had to make it for my dear friend Holly. this was a SUPER quick knit, i finished it over two days. it's adorably easy. i'd suggest making the ribbing a bit bigger than the pattern suggested, perhaps 1.5 or 2 inches, rather than the 1.

hurricane hat!

sorry for the sideways picture, but i haven't the time nor patience to correct it. plus, every one needs a good stretch of the neck so...you're welcome in advance.

this yarn has seen better days. it's been a part of two frogged hats (one being a giant hat with a stupid pattern and the other being the early version of this hat). i got the pattern here. for a n00b, the way it's written was a problem. i didnt understand the adding a stitch to make the total number of stitches an odd number when the pattern was in sets of 10. turns out, that odd numbered stitch allows your knitting to rotate around the hat (with out it, you end up with a really wide rib). however, because of the rotation it is 1.) impossible to use markers and 2.) hard to keep track of where you "started" (bc sometimes your starting marker (necessary for the knowledge of where your row ends) inevitably bounces around throughout the pattern. For the 2nd reason, I'd say this hat is "medium" easy. Otherwise, it is a super simple, quick knit and took me two nights and part of a saturday, but if i hadn't been so lazy, I'd say you could finish this in a day.

Felicity Hat

This is the hat that will never end. The pattern is a free ravelry download and is knit on 16 inch circular needles. I'm using Bernat Alpaca Natural Blends - a soft chunky yarn in ivory.

It's a super easy, pretty mindless project.

I knit a practice run (seen on the bottom) in about a week, but this second hat is just draaagging along.

I give it about another week before I'm done.

ZOMFG! its a hat!

it was panic!  i was in a sweat!  there was a near disaster!  but... i'm a friggin' rockstar and i covered up a few slipped stitches at the end and it's 97% perfection!

everyone!  everywhere!  PWNED!  oh, and here's the pattern.

oh THATS what its supposed to look like!

um... so on try #2 i realized that i had been doing the yarn over completely wrong.  now it is much easier to knit and it is looking WAY better.  i should have a completed hatty tomorrow!  i'm setting it down for the night though since my right arm is ACHING from hours of knitting.  YAY!

halfa finished? hat

i'm really starting to dislike charlie brown.

i. hate. this. hat.

sure, it turned out just fine after i started over 3 times, only... i followed the pattern too closely and should've done another round of the spirals.  it's too shallow for emily but would probably make a nice hat for a small child... or melon.  i'm thisclose to shoving a dpn into my eye.

you can't really tell b/c of the absurdity of my cameras flash but the pattern actually did turn out quite well.  let's just call it a learning experience.

halfa hat

i felt left out... so here's an update of half my hat for emily! i'm working on decreasing now. it took me a bit to figure out how to yarn over and not to toot my own horn but... i'd call myself a pro now. well, until i mess up and start over that is... in which case i'm not a pro - i'm a shmo. hip hip!
